Our Story
KIP: in 2007, with four babies at home…
…my printmaking equipment was gathering dust in the basement. I still wanted to create, but found myself working on a much smaller scale with simple tools, since it was easier to do alongside the kids (and easier to clean up!)
Winter is my favorite season and snow has always been a source of calm and creativity. The mere sight of flurries sparks total joy. When I was a child, I loved snow days, but I think I love them even more as a parent. Snow days mean cozy PJs, playing outside, and drinking hot chocolate. They mean spending the day together, a break from the morning hustle to pack lunches and get everyone out the door. Snow days are great days to make art! When I had the vision to create a place online to share my small-scale prints, I chose the name Snow Day Press.
The site sat blank for many years. An offer to purchase it was rebuffed -- I knew I wanted to do something with it, but hadn't found the time to refocus on it. In 2021, my oldest was required to make a Capstone Project for her post-graduate year. Elizabeth, a passionate XC skier, is also a great lover of snow…Quisque congue porttitor ullamcorper. ELIZABETH: WHEN I WAS THINKING ABOUT MY PROJECT…
…I knew I wanted to combine some of my interests with my passion for XC Skiing. I’ve always loved snow and winter and when I started XC skiing, I only came to appreciate it more. In elementary school, I was in an after-school environmental club, which sparked my interest in this topic. Throughout my years in high school, I’ve taken classes such as AP Environmental Science and Oceanography, and am planning to major in Environmental Science in college. The capstone project presented me with an opportunity to explore these connections.
